In his forty-six-year career Marques Haynes played professional basketball and was billed as the world’s greatest dribbler. Born March 10, 1926, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, in 1941 Haynes captained the town’s Booker T. Washington High School to a Negro national championship held at Tuskegee, Alabama. His team defeated the Oklahoma twins Lance and Lawrence Cudjoe of Seminole’s Booker T. Washington. The three later teamed to lead the Langston University Lions to a record of 112 wins to only three losses and a fifty-nine-game winning streak. The trio also anchored Langston to a 1946 upset victory of the Harlem Globetrotters in an exhibition game at Oklahoma City. The next year Haynes and the Cudjoes played in Globetrotter jerseys.

Jean is the daughter of the late Marguerite French of Clearview, Oklahoma. With as many siblings in her family, she had many opportunities to gain experience in cooking. Attending Clearview high school and having the best home economics teachers, she had the perfect teachers to help her become the homemaker she is today for her husband and son.

Christian Simpson and sons Nathan and Jacob of Huntington, California came to Clearview with their friends D. J. and daughter Berlin to learn about the Black towns they had learned of. Nathan, 10 years old and Jacob, 13 years old had visited the Greenwood District in Tulsa earlier and gained information which led them to learn more about Oklahoma’s Black history. Berlin, nine years old, and granddaughter of Donnie and Shirley Nero also learned a great deal of her heritage and deep roots of family in Clearview.

The Moss Senior Class of 2022 recently took their senior trip to Florida and had a great time as you can see from their photos. They would like to thank everyone who donated to help make this trip possible. They could not have gone without your generous donations.
