AZURA BOWMAN

AZURA BOWMAN, a Wetumka High School junior and current Bio-Med student at Wes Watkins Technology Center, served as a page for the Oklahoma House of Representatives in February. Cappi Coleman, her Bio-Med instructor at WWTC, encouraged her to fill out the application and she was accepted. Azura told us she observed the representatives in action, and took them things that they needed throughout the day. She also sat in on a mock session of bills being introduced on the house floor. Azura is pictured above with Representative Logan Phillips, District 24. Additional photos page 15.

BLESSING BOX AT WETUMKA FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH—After seeing the need people have for food a blessing box was erected at the church. It was placed there in memory of Elizabeth Rose, who recently passed away. Mrs. Rose was always lending a helping hand in any way she could, so the church wanted to do this in her honor. The people of Wetumka are invited to “Take what they NEED and leave what they CAN. It is opened to the whole town and everyone is invited to participate in taking and giving. You are invited to join them in worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am.

SHIRLEY A. NERO OF CLEARVIEW was reappointed to the Oklahoma Historical Society Board of Directors by Governor Kevin Stitt and Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice Yvonne Kauger on March 9 at a ceremony held at the Oklahoma History Center. See Clearview News on page 6 for full story.

Clearview Citizen of the Week

In 1930, William and Lavania Grundy and their oldest child moved from Domino, Texas to Tiger Mountain, Oklahoma. Tiger Mountain is located approximately ten miles east of Henryetta, Oklahoma. On August 20, 1931, Alpheus Grundy, another son was born. The family lived in that area until Eufaula Lake began to take over the land where they farmed. Therefore, elder Grundy moved the family to Rentie Settlement located approximately six miles west of Henryetta just north of Highway 62 where they farmed crops of watermelons, corn, peanuts, and cotton. Elder Grundy established the Baptist Church there and pastored there until the family moved to Clearview.

Shirley A. Nero Appointed to Oklahoma Historical Society Board of Directors

Governor Kevin Stitt reappointed Shirley A. Nero to the OHS Board of Directors and Associate Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court Yvonne Kauger on March 9 at the Oklahoma History Center. Governor Brad Henry initially appointed Nero to the board where she served until 2020. While on the board, Nero served on several committees and chaired the OHS Black Heritage Committee. She also served as board treasurer and vice chair. Currently, Nero serves on the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Committee where she served as chair, and the newly formed Friends of the Oklahoma Multicultural Board where she also serves as chair.
