Bernice Alexander

Funeral services were held on Friday, Mar. 25 at Indian Fellowship Church, Tulsa, for Bernice (Harjo) Alexander, 84. She was originally a member of Many Springs, born to Barney Harjo and Annie Cornell. She attended Eufaula Boarding school, Chilocco Boarding School, where she was nominated the “most friendly.” She went to work at Modern Bindery in Tulsa from where she retired.

Anthony Wayne Drake was born to Selma Drake, Sr., and Essie Mae (Clark) Drake in Clearview, Oklahoma on December 14, 1953. He was the fifth child of nine children. His parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one sibling, Selma Drake, Jr.

No place like home I always say and for sure Allen is my home. I think mom felt that real strong for Allen on one “bad” day in 1938. The day we moved to Centrahoma. The old house dad had rented was in horrible shape. Our new landlord had stored hay in it and now he had rented it to my broke and, as mom put it, “gullible” dad. I remember the giant red-ant bed in the front yard. No drinking water. Had to haul it. The outdoor toilet was hiding out in a dangerous looking sticker patch. No respectable snake would venture out there. For a bit of respectability and as an odor chaser, Mom repapered both rooms (of the house) with Daily Oklahomans using flour and water for paste. After Gerald wept over it, she tore the news print off the walls and repapered with comic strips— cheering my unhappy brother up.

The Red Hat Ladies met on March 3, 2022 at the Rib Crib in Ada for their monthly meeting. Diana Bowman and Joyce Brinlee were hostesses. Joyce was under the weather and asked Sharon Dilday to help Diana.

The Citizens of “The View” Ninety-Six-Year-Old Otis Davis

Otis Davis celebrated his 96 birthday on April 3, 2020, making him the oldest person living in Clearview not too far from his birthplace. He celebrated one day earlier with his hometown friends and family in front of Wanda Jean’s Uptown restaurant. Everyone in attendance sang happy birthday and ate cupcakes in his honor.

Town of Clearview Receives COEDD/REAP Grant

In January 2022, Clearview received a $50,000 REAP grant to repair the old school gym roof and rafters and the rock wall surrounding the school grounds. The WPA rock wall, known to the school kids as “the walk,” served as a running wall for the kids. Before school, recess, and after school, the children ran that walk. Throughout the years, the wall fell into disrepair in several places with gaps of knock down rocks and missing sections. Now, “the walk” looks as it did when first constructed. Before and after photos follow.
