Betty Grizzle
Betty J. Grizzle passed away at her home in Ada, Oklahoma on Friday, March 12, 2021, at the age of 94 years.
Betty was the daughter of Foster and Zillie (Rowland) Greenwood, born on July 25, 1926, in Baytown, Texas. She was brought up in Texas and Oklahoma, and attended Wewoka schools. She was married to Leroy Grizzle on March 29, 1941 in Holdenville, where they made their home until moving to California in 1961. Leroy passed away in 1988 and Betty remained in California until returning to Oklahoma in 2010. For the past ten years, she has been a resident of Heritage Village Nursing Center in Holdenville, until the past few months when she moved due to the Corona virus, to live with her granddaughter in Ada.
Betty was a homemaker and loved caring for her family. She enjoyed going to church and was a member of Free Will Baptist Church in Holdenville, and a member of the Assembly of God Church in California. She served many years as a Sunday School teacher and Missionette leader. For the past several years, she’s attended Penn West Baptist Church whenever possible. She loved travel and enjoyed trips all across the U.S. just visiting with family. She loved to read, write, and work crossword puzzles. If she ever knew anyone’s birthday or anniversary, she never forgot it.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Foster and Zillie Greenwood; her husband of 46 years, Leroy Grizzle; her son, Tommy Grizzle Sr; her granddaughter Malinda Y. Grizzle-Lindley; grandson Steven Grizzle; great-granddaughter Hailey Grizzle; two great-grandsons, Billy Climer and Tyler Duffy; two great-great-grandchildren, Kayden Lindley and Malinda J. Lindey; sister Josephine Molen- brother Jim Greenwood; twin siblings who died in infancy; and daughter-in-law Debra Gentry-Grizzle.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Grizzle and wife Dina, of California; daughter, Linda Grizzle Aponte and husband John, of Hawaii; ten grandchildre: Tommy Grizzle Jr, Kim Grizzle, Twila Grizzle, Jason Grizzle, Tammy Burton, Lynette Salgado, Bruce Grizzle Jr, Lisa Puccio, Tina Travers, and Amanda Berestynski; thirty-three great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 19 th , 2:00 p.m. at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Holdenville. www.fisherfh.net
