Graveside held for James “Jim” Williams
James Howard “Jim” Williams was born November 22, 1938 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Clarence and Nellie (Brotherton) Williams and passed from this life October 5, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 79.
Jim moved with his family to Weleetka when he was six months old. He attended school there and was a graduate of Weleetka High School. While in school he excelled in sports and was proud to be a part of four generations in his family who played Weleetka Outlaw football! Jim had an opportunity to play college football but he had already met a girl who stole his heart, Mildred “Mitt” Gibson, and they decided to start their own team. In 1957, they were married in Weleetka at, of all places, the local mortuary, now called the Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home. They made Weleetka their life long home and celebrated over 61 years of marriage. Jim worked some thirty years for the Wonder Bread Company as a sales and delivery person. He also raised cattle and enjoyed working in the hay field. He loved to fish with friends and watch his sons and grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed OU football.
Jim was very community minded and served some twenty years on the Weleetka Board of Education. He was truly loved and adored by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include: his wife Mildred “Mitt” Williams of the home; two sons: Russ and wife, Brenda, of Morris; Tim and wife, Cynthia, of Weleetka; his grandchildren: Tony of Morris, Timmy of Okemah, Tate and wife, Jenny, of Kansas, OK, Chad and wife, Elizabeth, of Spaulding, and Linsey and husband, Quinn, of Weleetka; great grandchildren: Jaxon, Langston, Presley, Wyatt, Ezra, Cooper, Roz and Rancee; a brother, Roy and wife, Sharon, of Portland, Oregon.
A graveside service was held Monday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Don Williamson officiating. Pallbearers were Timmy, Tate, and Chad Williams, Quinn Rogers, Clay Gibson, and Jerry Williamson. A private family burial was held on Tuesday. Services were under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Weleetka.
