Holdenville falls to Jones
By Randy Mitchell The Holdenville Wolverines lost to the Jones Longhorns Friday night, 55-6. In the first quarter, the Wolverines battled well against the Longhorns, ranked number one in Class 2A District 2. On a rainy night, with a wet field, many of Holdenville’s drives ended with punts. The Longhorns scored with six minutes left in the first quarter. The Wolverines defense held the Longhorns to seven points in the first quarter, but things unraveled in the second quarter. The Longhorns got three rushing touchdowns and returned a punt for a touchdown, leading to a half-time score of 34-0. Jones continued its scoring in the third quarter, adding and additional 21 points. With about two minutes left in the game, the Wolverines rushed for a touchdown, but failed to get the two-point conversion. According to MaxPreps, the Wolverines had 47 total plays, nine first downs and time of possession was 33:48. The Longhorns had 28 total plays, 13 first downs and time of possession was 10:27, according to MaxPreps. The Wolverines (3-4 overall and 1-3 in Class2A District
2) next battle the Meeker Bulldogs (6-1 overall and 3-1 in Class 2A District 2) ranked number three in the district. Meeker’s only loss of the season came at the hands of Jones. The game will be played in Holdenville at 7 p.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 18).
