Letty Sue Eckles Anderson
Letty Sue Eckles Anderson, age 84, of Holdenville passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 13, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. Sue was born April 25, 1934 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to George R. and Joyce Eckles.
Sue was a 1952 graduate of Holdenville High School known in her yearbook as “Lovely Letty Sue”. She continued her education at Stephens College receiving her Associate of Arts in May 1954. She then went to the University of Oklahoma graduating in December 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She furthered her education by receiving a Master of Education from East Central University in May of 1994.
In her youth, Sue spent two summers at Cheley Colorado Camps where she learned to challenge herself and overcome obstacles. She loved spending time in Estes Park playing with friends and family among the mountains.
Sue was a graceful, compassionate mentor and mother to many. She was a skilled artist and an active member of the Holdenville Society of Painters and Sculptures. She was a wonderful cook who was famous for her cherry pies and chocolate chip cookies. She was an active member of the Barnard Memorial United Methodist church where she served on almost every church committee, possibly twice. She taught Sunday school and helped with youth group and loved her church family.
She taught first grade at Parkview elementary school for 14 years. Hundreds of Holdenville elementary students were exposed to her passion for reading and love of art.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Jerry Stanley Anderson.
She is survived by son Bob and Doris Anderson of Lamar, daughter Georgann and Kevin Amack of Meeker, Colorado, and son Brad and Gwen Anderson of Pepper Pike, Ohio; grandchildren Tyler and Summer Anderson, Madeline and Annelise Amack, and Piper, Eloise, and Susannah Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church, 300 East Eighth, Holdenville, OK 74848.
Funeral service were 2:00 PM Monday, December 17th , at Barnard United Methodist Church Holdenville, Oklahoma. Interment followed at Holdenville Cemetery.
Services were are under the direction of Hudson Phillips Funeral Home.
