Lewis Wayne Woodel

Lewis Wayne Woodell passed away at the Sulphur Veterans Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at the age of 73 years.

Lewis was the son of Robert Woodell Sr. and Freda (Lee) Wood-ell, born on July 19, 1945, in Clarita, Okla-. He

was brought up in the communities of Clarita, Coalgate, and Allen, and attended schools at Clarita and Allen. He joined the U.S. Navy at an early age, young enough that his parents’ signatures were required for him to enlist. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1966.

He married Joyce Lively on December 16, 1966, and they were blessed with two sons, Donnie and Eric. The family made their home in the Atwood area, where Lewis worked in the oilfield and also for the City of Allen, until he retired in 2007.

Lewis loved to play dominoes and watch John Wayne movies. He was very active in his community as a member of the Allen VFW, the Allen Masonic Lodge, and the Allen Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Atwood Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Freda Wood-ell; siblings Bill Lee, Emily Cunningham, Mary Ruth Burkes, Robert ‘Bob’ Woodell, Chester Woodell, and J. L. Woodell.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Joyce Lively of Atwood; two sons, D o n n i e Wood-ell (Chris Sellars) of Claremore

and Eric Woodell (Angela) of Ada; grandchildren Blayke Logan Wood-ell (Natasha) of Coal-gate, Donley Woodell of Ada, Rheagan Woodell (Cody) Boatright of Ardmore, Austin Woodell of Pauls Valley, and Quinton Woodell of Ada; two great-grandsons, Grayson and Jet; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 8th , 2:00 p.m.  at the Atwood Church of Christ, with Keith Warren officiating. Pallbearers were Blayke Woodell, Donley Woodell, Lawayne Frederick, Justin Boolin, Jeremy Boolin, and Wayne Beck. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Woodell, Wesley Rinehart, Harry Joe Ellis, and Glen Harrington. Lewis was laid to rest in the Atwood Cemetery with military honors.
