On September 2, in the year 1949, God graced the world with a beautiful soul. Carolyn Marie (Tucker) Pendarvis was born to Charles Wesley Tucker and Hattie Lou Durant in Clearview, Oklahoma. She moved with her family in 1950 to Oklahoma City, and later to Forest Park, OK where she lived until her homegoing. A special Dad/Father who loved and cared for her, Therman L. Oliver preceded Carol in death. Carol accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, uniting with Greater Cleaves CME Church where she remained until her passing.
Carol, as many people knew her, attended Oklahoma City public schools, graduat ed early from Frederick A. Douglass High School in December of 1966, and marched across the stage with her classmates in May of 1967. While at Douglass, she participat ed in several clubs. Carol was an original "Trojet," a specialty twirling team created by the late Mr. Willard Pitts, where she learned to twirl with fire, performed dance routines on the football field and basketball court, and led the Pride of the Eastside Marching Band. A leading scholar at Douglass, Carol played volleyball, softball and ran track. Her beauty, skills, and talent led her to compete in the Miss Black Oklahoma pageant. A master seamstress, Carol organized numerous fashion shows in which she modeled and also made clothes for others to model in. Her love and talent for sewing led her to design and sew the original Trojet uniforms; the cape that presently adorns Miss Douglass; and the latest Trojet uniforms from 2016 to the present. There was nothing that Carol could not sew! She loved to participate in dance competitions alongside her brother Earl Wesley Tucker. Carol was a master carpenter and contractor. She was single-handedly rehabbing a 3,000+ sq ft home in Forest Park at the time of her illness.
Following early graduation, Carol attended Drum Business College temporarily in January of 1967. She left to complete her education at Central State University (now The University of Central Oklahoma). Carolyn united in Holy Matrimony to Grail Pendarvis on July 10, 1971. From that union her two sons, Grail Dwayne
Pendarvis Jr., and Gregory Darrell Pendarvis, were born. Carol was a hard worker, wore many hats, and walked in many shoes. She was always giving her time and love to others. Carolyn was a tremendous resource to those around her and within the community.
Carolyn joined the Masonic organization of the Heroines of Jericho of Ruth A. Rhymes #47 in 1986. Also, a member of the Jefferson’s Daughters of the Eastern Star Organization Chapter #108, she was a member of the Golden Circle Dorcas Assembly #41 as well. Carolyn worked as a district manager for the RCA Company and served as regional director for General Electric for 18 years. She served as administrator for Guthrie Job Corps and The University of Oklahoma Hospital, and as project manag er for the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services in the Management Ser- vices Division, where she began working in Property Management in January 1998. Prior to working at DRS, Carol worked for the Department of Human Services and the University Hospitals beginning in 1992. The citizens of The Town of Forest Park elected and re-elected her as town treasurer where she worked until her health failed.
Carol is welcomed with open arms by her fathers Therman L. Oliver and Charles W. Tucker, brother Felix Tucker, her grandparents, and many other loved ones and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and caring mother, Hattie L. Oliver; her sons Grail Jr. and Gregory (OKC); her brother Earl W. Tucker (OKC); her sister Dr. Charlie Harris (ATL); her grandchildren A'Niya, Grace, Jeremiah, Gregory Jr., Ny'ilah and Melody Pendarvis who she cared for until her passing. She also leaves to cherish her memory two special loved ones— Tracy Dingus and Joseph Cooper- who she had taken under her wings; her favorite Aunts, Vera Morgan, Irene Carson, Barbara-Jean Forshee, and Uncles, L.C. Carson, Gerald Carson, Donald, and Thomas Durant. Carol loved her nephews, nieces, cousins, family members and friends dearly. May you al ways see her sunshine.
