Lowell Friend
Lowell Lee Friend was born February 24, 1940 in Holdenville, OK. He passed peacefully in Sugar Land, TX at the Memorial Hermann Hospital, February 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Lee and Anna Hawthorne Friend.
Lowell was raised in Holdenville and attended all twelve grades there graduating from Holdenville High School in May, 1958. Lowell was very active in high school sports including basketball and football and was a three-year letterman for his beloved Wolverine football team. Lowell’s college
Lowell’s college education included attendance at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Eastern Oklahoma State College, Wilburton, and East Central University in Ada, while pursuing a degree in business. It was during this time frame, he married Carolyn Virginia Roberts, his high school sweetheart in June, 1960. They were married for 60 years.
He became a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard shortly after high school and had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class while serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of the 45 th Infantry Division in Oklahoma City by the end of his term of service.
Lowell began his working carrier in sales, shortly after college, with the Nabisco Company in Oklahoma City, before relocating to Wichita, KS. That Kansas position started him on a life-long sales career with several different companies, all serving the automotive paint and finishes industry. While pursuing those opportunities, he and Carolyn lived and worked in Broken Arrow, OK, Evergreen, CO and Sugar Land, TX where they made their home for the last 30 plus years.
Before and after his retirement in 2008, he spent many enjoyable years actively involved with his three grandsons watching and aiding in their development in both little league and high school sports. He loved to talk and watch sports with them and was extremely happy to see all three attend the University of Oklahoma where they could cheer on his Sooners. In 2019, he was thrilled to again experience the annual Red River Rivalry football game with his grandsons and extended family.
The good news is that Lowell was a lifelong, committed servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was active in all the different churches he and Carolyn attended down through the years with their membership, financial support and personal service including continuous financial support of their hometown church, and place of their marriage, the Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Holdenville, OK.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Carolyn Friend; his son Dane Friend and his wife, Cassie and three grandsons, Colby, Alec, and Gavin; and brother, Carl Friend; a brother-in-law, Paul Roberts and his wife, Melba along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
