In Memory of the Clearview Rodeo
On February 6, 2021, Romeo James Alford Jr passed from this life due to COVID complication. He was the son of the late Romeo and Louise Swain Alford of Clearview, owners of the original All-Black Clearview Rodeo. With his death, the rodeo ceased to be. This was a huge loss to the family and to the town of Clearview. But their memories live on. His wife Brenda and daughter Jordan continue to maintain the legacy and the grounds. Hopefully, they will return the rodeo to Clearview.
August 6, 2022 would have been the date of the Annual Clearview Rodeo. In memory of this date, the local citizens celebrated a Clearview day on the streets where a parade of horses, cars, and homemade floats once moved from the old Clearview school grounds east towards the rodeo grounds. Instead, groups celebrated with a fish fry, music, card games, dominoes, and a school backpack give-away. The activities began with an 8:00 a.m. garage sale at the Dollie Golden pavilion with street activities beginning at 6:00 p.m. uptown Main Street. Organizer, Marilyn Jackson said it was a little hot outside and attendance was down but those who attended had a great time. Plans are to continue an activity each year whether it be the annual rodeo, Founder’s Day, or Clearview, Clearview will continue to thrive the first weekend in August.
