Our sympathy is extended to the family of Patricia McMahan
Patricia Jean McMahan passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 77.
Patricia was born January 18, 1947, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, to Dwayne Davis and Velma (Peck) Davis. She graduated from Atwood Public School as a member of the school’s last graduating class. Patricia received her Bachelor’s degree from OSU in 1969.
In 1965, when she was starting college at OSU, Orvis McMahan, then the FSA director for Hughes County, suggested to his brother, David, that he look up a young woman from Atwood named Patricia Davis. Patricia and David began dating and were married on August 26, 1967, at the Atwood Baptist Church.
In 1995, following the deaths of Patricia’s uncle, Glenn Edwards, and her father, Dwayne Davis, David started a small cattle herd with some of their animals. After he “retired” in 2001, David and Patricia settled in Atwood and expanded the cattle operation. Patricia very much enjoyed working with the animals - more than she expected she would. Both moved their memberships to the Atwood Baptist Church.
Patricia taught home economics for one year at Prague High School after graduating from OSU, but generally referred to herself as a homemaker. She enjoyed Bible study, the ocean, song writing - with one song recorded on an album by Wanda Jackson - writing poetry, and watching old movies and true crime documentaries. Patricia loved spending time with her family and friends.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Dwayne and Velma Davis, and her husband David McMahan.
She is survived by her son Michael McMahan and his wife Richelle Mitchem-McMahan of Edmond; two grandchildren, Micah McMahan and Christopher McMahan; siblings Bill Davis and wife Marilyn of Allen, Texas, and Maureen Humphrey and husband Royston of Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK. Patricia is survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
