Service held for Laura Jane Gentry

Laura “Jane” (McDonald) Gentry, 84 of Panola, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, comfortably in her favorite recliner at her home.

The funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Wilburton Church of Christ with Mr. Darren Harber officiating. The burial followed at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Wilburton, Oklahoma under the direction of Jones Harkins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Vinson, Mike Williams, Joe Mack McAlester, Latt Jeffrey, Cody Browne, and Jason Harkins. Honorary pallbearers were Leland Walker and Robert Yother.

Jane was born on June 11, 1937 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Noble McDonald and Laura (Smith) McDonald. She married Jerry Gentry on September 3, 1956 in Wetumka, Oklahoma.

She was a member of the Wilburton Church of Christ. Jane enjoyed being active in the community with the Wilburton Chamber of Commerce and the Ladies Auxiliary at the Latimer County Hospital. She also enjoyed photography, genealogy and quilting.

She is survived by her two daughters: Brenda Ferrell and husband, Dr. Mark Ferrell of McAlester, and Diana Slyman of Bellingham, Washington; her five grandchildren: Matt Ferrell and wife, Sydney of Tulsa, Katie (Ferrell) Wilson and husband, Johnny of Edmond, Laura Slyman, Lance Slyman, and Eric Slyman all of Bellingham, Washington; a sister-in-law: Pat McDonald of Eufaula; a dear nephew: Don Stites and wife, Sally of Eufaula; along with other nieces and nephews.

Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gentry in 2003; her parents: Noble and Laura McDonald; her brothers: J.D. McDonald, Dean McDonald, and Dewayne McDonald; and a sister: Vivian Stites.
