Service held for Linda Rae Smith

Posted in:

Linda Rae Smith passed away in McLoud, Oklahoma on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at the age of 73 years.

Linda was the daughter of Odell Ballard and Maxine Hawkins Morgan, born on April 7, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her mother passed away when Linda was only two years old, and she was raised by her grandparents, Carl and Lillie Hawkins. She was brought up and attended schools in Oklahoma City, and graduated Crooked Oak High School with the Class of 1963. Linda and Jerry Tackett had a daughter, Shelly, born in 1965.

Linda lived her entire life in the Oklahoma City and Del City area.  She worked several years as a secretary for APCO and also for Mobil Oil Company, and in various other occupations until she retired in the early 2000s. She loved to bowl and belonged to various leagues. She enjoyed collecting clocks, bells, and Tweety Birds. She loved animals, particularly her own dogs and cats. She loved music, and her favorite artist was Alan Jackson, who she always said reminded her of Jerry Tackett.

One of her favorite things was buying gifts for her children and grandchildren. She loved her family deeply, and all of them knew that as much as she loved the girls, it was her grandson Chase who really had her heart. She was also devoted to her son-in-law, Jimmy, who took such good care of her throughout her illness, and Shelly was cheerfully aware that Linda might have loved Jimmy more than her. Linda’s family was the joy of her life, and she will be greatly missed by all of them.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Odell Ballard and Maxine Hawkins Morgan; her grandparents, Carl and Lillie Hawkins; and an uncle and aunt she was brought up with, who were more like her brother and sister, Ray Hawkins and Wilma Shilling.

She is survived by one daughter, Shelly Ussery (Jimmy) of Horntown; two grandchildren, Stacey Harlan (Scott) of Newalla, and Chase White (Samantha) of Pink; four great grandchildren, Rylee, Marshall, Oakley, and Locke; five step grandchildren, Tonia, Sonya, Randall, Samantha, and Harley; ten step great grandchildren; other family members, and many friends.

Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21st , and Linda was laid to rest at Lamar Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Foos officiating. Pallbearers were Chase White, Jimmy Ussery, Scott Harlan, and Randall Ussery.

Services were under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville. www.fisherfh.net
