Service held for Michael Lee Martin
Michael Lee Martin passed away in Lawton, Oklahoma on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at the age of 51 years.
Michael was the son of William S. ‘Boots’ Martin and Janice (Skipworth) Martin, born on April 19, 1968, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was brought up in the Lamar area and attended Moss schools graduating Moss High School, with the Class of 1986. Right out of high school he joined the U.S. Army, and served two years.
Following military service he moved to Missouri, where he worked in construction for a few years. He married Denise Stegemann in 1989, and they were the parents of two children, Machala and James.
Michael returned to Lamar, where he married Sabrina Davis in 1995. They had two children, Sarah and Cameron. Michael lived in Lamar for several years, and then in various communities including Wetumka, Holdenville, Hydro, and Calvin. He worked five years in industrial maintenance at a nuclear power plant, in Arizona, traveling back and forth between Arizona and Oklahoma.
In 2011, he moved to Cyril, Oklahoma, where he married Kimberly Hargus and acquired two stepchildren, Riley and Kelsey, and they’ve made their home in Cyril since that time.
Michael loved fishing and hunting. He was a volunteer fireman at both Lamar and Wetumka.
He is preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents; one brother, Randall Martin, and one stepbrother, Randall Helt.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, of the home; six children, Machala Martin of Oklahoma City, Cameron Martin of Holdenville, James Martin of Midwest City, Sarah Martin of Tecumseh, Riley Coop of Edmond, and Kelsey Coop of Cyril; ten grandchildren; his mother and stepfather, Janice and Tommie Helt of Hydro; his father William ‘Boots’ Martin of Lamar; one brother, Darren Keith Martin of Greeley, Colorado; stepsister Tracey Sanchez of Hydro and stepbrother Thomas Allen Helt of Oklahoma City; nieces Natasha Matthews of Tecumseh and Miranda Martin of Hydro; triplet great-nieces Luna, Zailey, and Paisley; other family members and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 16th , at 2:00 p.m. in the Lamar Pentecostal Church, and Michael was laid to rest at Lamar Cemetery. Rev. Larry Chesser and Rev. Lloyd Cross were the officiating ministers. Pallbearers were Jason Hart, John Gann, Russ Arthur, James Skipworth, Chris Brinson, and Tom Davis. Honorary Pallbearers were Clay Meeks, Bob Harwell, Thomas Harwell, Keith Gann, George Reich, Perry Burleson, Jerome Sherrin, Noel Sherrin, and Melvin Sherrin.Clay Meeks, Bob Harwell, Thomas Harwell, Jamie Skipworth, and Keith Gann.
