Service held for Scott Dale Bruner
Scott Dale Bruner was born February 21, 1953 in Ulysses, Kansas to Raymond and Carlene (Douglas) Bruner and passed from this life September 5, 2021 at his home in Wetumka at the age of 68.
Scott was raised in Wetumka and attended Wetumka School. He is remembered as one of the stars of the Wetumka Chieftain football team who was the State Champion Runner-Up his Senior year. Following graduation from Wetumka High School in 1971 he enrolled in Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Oklahoma where he continued playing football for the NEO A&M Golden Norsemen. He later began a career as a pipeliner and spent some time working for Transok. Along with raising cattle he followed pipelining for many years. He was a member of the Pipeliners Union #798.
After being out of school for a while Scott enrolled in the University of Oklahoma where he received a degree in geology. He made his home in Oklahoma City for many years but returned to Wetumka in the early 90s. Scott is remembered as being very generous, always ready to lend a helping hand. He was especially generous in caring for his family and took special care of his mother, Carlene.
Scott was preceded in death by his father and three brothers, Jimmy, Charlie, and Gene, and wife Lynn Roerick of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Survivors include: 2 children, Shannon Fouts and husband Rodney of Edmond and Justin Bruner and wife Christy of Oklahoma City; his mother Carlene Bruner of Wetumka; 2 sisters, Billie Stover and husband Charles of Newcastle and Susie Arnold of Wetumka; 5 grandchildren, Gavin, Phaedra, Annabeth, Luke, and Marissa; 2 great grandchildren Gideon and Shepherd, and a new one is on the way!; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wetumka Assembly of God Church with Rev. Curt Bellinger, pastor, and Rev. Rodney Fouts officiating. Pallbearers were Justin Bruner, Luke Bruner, Rodney Fouts, Gavin Fouts, Chas Stover, and Greg Brewer. Interment followed in the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka.
