Service Saturday for Leroy Arthur
Leroy A Arthur, age 84, passed away at his residence on May 2, 2020.
He was born in Lamar, Oklahoma on August 30, 1935 and was the son of the late John and Beatrice Arthur. He was raised in Lamar, Bohannon, and Stuart. He attended the Moss, Stuart, and Bohannon schools. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings; Della May Wolf, Wilburn Dale ‘Strawberry’ Arthur, Delbert Arthur, Annabelle Mitchell, and Earl Arthur. He attended East Central in Ada, where he played baseball and received a Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics as well as a Masters of Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He worked on testing of the missile defense program for the Bell Laboratories. One of his assignments was at Sundance Air Force station for the final testing which enabled this station to become an operational part of the SAGE radar system. He was an electrical engineer for the Bell Laboratories, AT&T, and Lucent. He spent the majority of his life raising his family in Greensboro, NC and was involved with First Lutheran Church. He was a man that could fix or do anything and was a good friend to many. He retired to Oklahoma living in Edmond and Norman where he enjoyed golfing, gardening, and spending time and spoiling his granddaughter, Kailey Lewis. He was affectionately known as “Pops” to Kailey. He was an excellent golfer and loved teaching his granddaughter the sport. He enjoyed school reunions with his classmates in Bohannon, Oklahoma and spending time with his brother, Strawberry and his very good friends, Guye Richard Reeder and Derald McNutt. One of his favorite childhood memories was fishing with Guye and Strawberry at Piney Creek behind their home in Lamar.
Leroy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Madge Ellen Arthur (Dunsing), a retired teacher; his daughter, Beth Lewis and husband, Roger Lewis, and grandchild, Kailey Lewis; daughter Bonnie Myshrall and granddaughter Katie Myshrall, his sister Vonnie Cullen; his sister-in-law, Shirley Arthur; nieces and nephews: Orville Rose and his wife, Bobbie, Mike Arthur, Tina Michelle Brinlee, Sean Wolf, Stephanie Langley, and Tracy Cullen. Leroy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always provided for his family. He will be missed by many.
Graveside services will be held at the Lamar Cemetery in Lamar, Oklahoma on May 9, 2020 at 11:00 am. Services will be outdoors and are all welcome to attend as social distancing requirements will be met.
