Service Today for Alton Goodwin
Alton Dwain Goodwin 77 of Wetumka, OK passed away peacefully Sunday February 10, 2019 at Seminole Care Center in Seminole, OK. after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. He was born January 29, 1942 in Okemah, OK to the late Burl and Alinie (Patrick) Goodwin. Alton grew up in Wetumka, OK and moved to Pinedale, CA with his family at the age of 17. True to Alton’s character, he became the primary provider when his father was injured and unable to work. During this period, Alton worked many different jobs including a security guard and for Valley Decorating constructing parade floats. It was at this point he met and married the love of his life Marilynn. They married after a brief 6-month courtship in 1961. In 1963, they were blessed with their first son, Gary. They moved back to Wetumka, OK briefly and then returned to Pinedale, CA. During this time Alton worked for his father-in-law as a painter and wallpaper hanger. In 1966, they were blessed with their second son, Terry. In 1973, the Goodwins made a final return to Wetumka, OK. Alton worked for a minnow farmer, Hyper Test Company (pipe testing), and Clinton Liles (repairing tractors). At Clinton’s passing, Alton opened his own repair shop. Working with all types of engines, agriculture equipment and tractors. Alton gathered many friends that were considered family including Adam Caldwell whom they thought of as their third son.
Alton was a member of the Wetumka First Baptist Church, served as a member of the Wetumka City Council, and the Wetumka hospital board. His many hobbies included raising fish, hunting, fishing and riding in many play days with the Bit n Spur Riding Club. He loved his horses Cash and Candy and forever loved his dogs Buddy and Molly. However, nothing compared to his love of his many grand and great grandchildren, as well as others that came into his life.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by Gary Dale Goodwin, brother, Mary Jane Goodwin, sister-in-law, and Tracy (Bates) Caldwell, daughter-in-law.
Survivors include wife Marilynn (Klomp) Goodwin; sons: Gary Goodwin of Wetumka, OK, Terry and Tammy Goodwin of Holdenville, OK, and Adam Caldwell of Wetumka, OK.; 7 grandchildren, Bailey, Garrett, Laccee, Brandon, Shelby, John, And Wyatt.; 12 great-grandchildren, Oliver, Lukin, Lane, Grace, Blanton, Kendall, Tucker, Savannah, Daniel, Eli, Blair, and Adam. Along with numerous family members.
Viewing was Wednesday February 13, 2019 at William-Spradlin Funeral home.
Funeral service will be held today (Thursday) February 14,2019 at 10 am at Wetumka First Baptist Church. Burial to follow at the Wetumka Cemetery.
