Service today for June Sorrell
Nevora June Storts Sorrell was born March 29, 1944 at The Ole Homeplace seven miles south and three miles east of Wetumka, Oklahoma, to Robert Odell Storts and Lola Marie (Bratcher) Storts.
She attended Moss School and graduated in 1962. She met her husband, James E. Sorrell, at Bristow Youth Camp in the summer of 1962 and later married in March, 1963, at Texas Banner Church of God. They made their home in several places over the years but settled south of Wetumka in 1969, where they raised their four children, Jeffrey, Joe, Julie, and Jonathan.
June was a stay-at-home mom and had a daycare in her home for thirty-plus years, keeping over one hundred children before retiring in May, 2011. Her heart was to always care for those around her and to keep in touch with neighbors, family, and friends. Most will remember receiving that perfectly worded card for your birthday, anniversary, or for encouragement because she was thinking of you.
She had a passion for the Lord and served in many areas in the church, at both Texas Banner Church of God in rural Wetumka and First Church of God in Holdenville, playing the piano, keyboard, teaching, singing in the choir, and serving on boards and committees. She believed in studying and hiding the Word of God in her heart and practicing it daily. Some may have thought her to be meek and timid but make no mistake, her Faith in the Lord gave her boldness and in that she was uncompromising. Everything she did, she tried to do in love so not to discourage others from knowing the Lord.
June passed from this life on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at her home in Holdenville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Lola Storts; three brothers, Robert ‘Bob’ Storts, Marvin
Storts, and Billy Storts; one sister, Dorothy Lee Storts.
She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 57 years, James Edward Sorrell; sons Jeff and wife Janice Sorrell of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Joe Sorrell of Wetumka, daughter Julie and husband Danny Underwood of Van Buren, Arkansas, and Jonathan and wife Melissa Sorrell of Wetumka; eight grandchildren and spouses, Heather Tong, Felicia Sorrell, Hannah and husband Jeremy Rose, Sarah and husband DeMone Franklin, Alyssa Underwood, Dannah and husband Caleb Hill, Parker Sorrell, and Braelyn Sorrell; eight great grandchildren, Brayden Rose, Samuel Rose, Ayden Rose, Julieanne Rose, Jordan Tong and Carson Tong, Elijah Franklin and Ky Franklin; three sisters, Rosella Walden and husband Alton, Carolyn Barrowman and husband Jerry, and Janice Eller; two brothers, Jim Storts and wife Francis, and Larry Storts and wife Marilyn; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
