Troy Lee Wagoner

Troy Lee Wagoner passed away peacefully at his son's home in Choctaw, Oklahoma, on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on March 2, 1937, in Lamar, Oklahoma, Troy was the son of Willis Monroe Phillip Arton Wagoner and Syble Bertha Wagoner. He grew up in Lamar, living without electricity until the age of 16, a formative experience that shaped his resilient character.

Troy attended schools in Lamar and graduated from Moss High School in 1955. While in school, he played baseball and basketball, developing a lifelong passion for the game of baseball. After graduation, he began working on the pipeline until 1957, when he moved to Midwest City. There, he worked for W.P. Atkinson Lumber Company for nine years before joining the Midwest City Fire Department in 1965. Troy dedicated 20 years to the department, achieving the rank of Captain before retiring in 1985. Although he passed the test for Fire Chief and was offered the role of Assistant Chief, he chose retirement to pursue his other passions.

In 1978, Troy married Linda (Marsh) Leach, and they shared 46 wonderful years together.

Known for his belief in hard work, Troy not only excelled in his career but also poured his energy into his hobbies. In his younger years, he meticulously maintained cars, cleaning and waxing them to perfection before selling or gifting them. He also found joy in farm work, particularly tending to his herds of cows, horses, and chickens. His dedication was evident in the time he spent leasing and managing pastures across various counties. Troy often spent hours checking on his livestock, squatting on his heels and observing his herd with care. Troy's passion for chickens began in childhood and endured throughout his life. He raised exotic breeds, introducing varieties previously unseen in the area, and sold them to enthusiasts who showed chickens. Though he never participated in shows himself, his love for these animals was widely recognized. Troy also enjoyed the donkey basketball games hosted by the fire department as fundraisers, reflecting his great sense of humor and love for community.

Troy is preceded in death by his parents, Willis Wagoner and Syble Wagoner; his sister, Colene McCoy; his half-sister, Marie Chesser; and nephew, Randy Tippin. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Wagoner, of the home; his two sons, Keith Wagoner (Janice) of Choctaw and Gary Wagoner of Midwest City; and his three cherished grandchildren, Jessica Guerrero (Dicky) of Choctaw, Stephanie Anderson (Aaron) of Edmond, and Nicole Wagoner of Midwest City. He was the proud great-grandfather of six: Gracelyn, Tucker, Stella, Jude, Nora, and Evan. Troy also leaves behind his siblings: Cathy Wortman of Calvin, Rosella Tillman of Newalla, Joyce Nickell (Larry) of Moore, and Larry Wagoner of Holdenville. He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews Michelle, Sharla, Tanya, LaDonna, Bryant and Ross, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, family members, and countless friends.

Troy's humor, work ethic, and love for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Fisher Funeral Home-Lillye Chapel in Holdenville and Troy was laid to rest at Lamar Cemetery, with Rev. Matt Wyatt officiating.
