Funeral services for Doris Jean Burleson will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Interment will be at the Weleetka Cemetery.

Doris Jean Colvin Burleson was born July 10, 1935 and died Jan. 1, 2025, but what happened in between is what's important. Doris rode horses, visited the Hoover Dam, survived Polio, built award-winning bouquets of roses, ate more Braum's banana splits than anyone, ever, rode bicycles with her sons and loved a good pink lipstick. She moved between Oklahoma and California in her youth and graduated from Wolf High School. Soon after, she met a handsome young John Burleson, who she married in 1953. She taught Sunday School for 15 years, wrote briefly for an area newspaper and was an active member of the Oklahoma Rose Society. Doris cultivated her yard with love, building a truly enviable rose garden and paradise for area songbirds, which she loved nearly as much as she loved her cats. Doris was sweet, eager, creative and loved to laugh. She is survived by her son, Stephen Robert Burleson, and granddaughter, Anna Marie Burleson. She is preceded in death by several siblings including Harold Woody Colvin, her parents, her cherished grandmother Kitty Lou Colvin, her husband John Burleson, and three sons, Scott Dwayne, James Ryan and John Edward Burleson Jr. She is also preceded in death by her beloved cats, Calico and Tabitha, and we're sure they're curled up on her lap keeping her warm.

Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma.
