Service held for Jovani Briones

Kaden Jovani Briones was born July 6, 2006 in Oklahoma City to Kimberly Brown and Pedro Briones.  He was a member of the Mvskoke Creek Nation. He was of the Bird Clan and Mexican Heritage.  He was known throughout the community by many names: Bubba, Bub, Jovani, and Big Handsome.

Bub was a true fighter since birth. At age 1 on July 9, 2007, Bub was listed on the heart transplant wait list and remained hospitalized at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.  Eight days later on July 17, 2007, he received the Berlin Heart, a life-sustaining device.  September 9, 2007, Bub received a heart.  Bub returned home in October 2007.  He was baptized November 15, 2009 at Salt Creek Methodist Church. In February 2017, Bub was diagnosed with PTLD and underwent many rounds of chemo.

Our beloved son went to be with our Lord and Savior Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:48 a.m. while in St. Louis Children’s Hospital – Missouri, surrounded by family.

Bub had a precious, infectious smile that won many hearts.  Bub spoke very few words but could get his point across with a smile, thumbs up, or a “No!”  He was an avid fan of PBR and WWE.  He also loved loved music.

Bub is survived by mom and dad, Kimberly Brown and Pedro Briones; siblings Kacie, Kenzi and baby Kenny, of the home; Monserrat, Socorro, and Jose de Jesus of Mexico; special cousin/big brother Mason Yahola of Bremerton, Washington; grandmothers Debbie Clark, of the home, and Aurora Briones Maldonado, of Mexico; aunts and uncles Katherine Brown and Shorty Rodriguez of Holdenville, Sandy Clark of Tulsa, Christy Clark and Sammy Wahweah of El Reno, Megan Stone, and Matt Cummings of Tahlequah, Tara Brown and Trevor Frank of Sapulpa, Christina DeLira Briones, Luz DeLira Briones, Cuca DeLira Briones, and Carmen DeLira Briones, all of Mexico, Billy and Kayla Brown of Sapulpa, Daniel and Aliza Brown of Washington, Eduardo DeLira Briones, Jose DeLira Briones, Miguel DeLira Briones, and Juan DeLira Briones, all of Mexico; nieces Dayra Garcia, Yeralin Llamas, and Samira Garcia, all of Mexico; and numerous cousins, relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are Papas Kenneth Brown, Miguel DeLira, and Andy Clark; Great Grandma Lizzie Bruner and Tio Melvin Bruner.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Francis Children’s Hospital Tulsa and St. Louis Children’s Hospital Missouri for their love and wonderful care given to Bub and the entire family. The family would also like to thank the community and Commercial Brick for their outpouring of love and support, and also all those that prayed for Bub and our family.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 14th , 1:30 p.m. at Salt Creek Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Fixico and Louis McGeeley Jr officiating.  Pallbearers were Everardo De-lira Lopez, Gustavo Negrete, Quinten Wahweah, Cameron Wahweah, Shorty Rodriguez, and Bony Silva. Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Harjo, Carter Royston, Nicolas Rodriguez, Jeremi Cervantes, David California Hernandez, David Hernandez, and Jorge Zacarias.

Bub was laid to rest at Harjo Family Cemetery, Holdenville, Oklahoma.
