Service held for Pinky Yahola
Leona Ruth (Bemo) Yahola, also known to everyone as “Pinky,” passed on from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on October 23, 2019 at her home in Wetumka, Oklahoma at the age of 74. She was born on July 19, 1945 to Simeon and Beulah Bemo in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
Pinky, a graduate from Wewoka High School, was said to be an outstanding athlete by those who knew her. As aunt Amy Owings stated, “An athlete and a half.” Her interest in sports continued throughout her life as Pinky was an avid fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder, OU football, and her kids and grandkids.
Pinky was also known for her cooking, especially her Indian Tacos. There wasn’t a job too big for her. She would spend sleepless nights preparing for large events such as Seminole Nation Days, the Stroud Pow Wow (cooking for her brother Benny’s family), camping and cooking over an open fire at the Illinois River during Labor Day Weekend and the All-Indian Tournaments at Wheeler Park, and looked forward to her annual Sucker Day Indian Taco Sale. Pinky always made sure everyone was fed and she also had a knack for making new friends wherever she went.
Pinky was most proud of her family, especially her children: Tvske, Asi, Leah, Nora, Ang, Min and B. She would follow them to many of their games and any activities they were involved in. When it seemed like there wasn’t enough, Pinky made sure there was enough when taking care of her children and the others she loved.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Simeon and Beulah; her siblings: Dink Bemo, Benny Bemo, Roberta Bemo Coley, and grandson Cameron Osborn.
Pinky is survived by daughter, Thomasene Osborn and husband Jeff, of Wetumka; son, Asi Yahola, of the home; daughter, Leah Underwood, of Wetumka; daughter, Lenora Crump and husband George Jr., of Wetumka; daughter, Angela Sleet and husband Maurice, of Wetumka; daughter, Melinda Smith, of Wetumka; and son, Opothle Yahola and Diana Baker, of Wetumka; sister, Rena Bemo, of Wewoka; twenty-two grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
