James E. Seale
On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, James E. Seale passed away at the age of 85 in Bethany, OK.
He was born in Calvin, Oklahoma on November 23, 1934. He moved to Oklahoma City to pursue his education and a better life for himself. James held a variety of jobs while obtaining his business school degree. He met the love of his life, Ruth Clark, while they both attended Draughon’s business school. They married in 1955.
He began work at Western Electric in 1957 and retired as an engineer from Lucent Technologies after 38 years with the company.
James was intensely loyal to his family, having helped many through troubled times by sheltering them in his home or offering them a hand up. He often did the same with strangers, stopping to buy a meal or groceries or just offer a kind word. Most were unaware the degree of his generosity.
He was a prolific storyteller with a knack for detail. James’ stories could stretch from 15 minutes to several hours, depending on the patience of his audience. That eye for detail also influenced his daily life and hobbies. His passion was woodcarving; and he created lasting works of art for his friends, family and grandchildren.
He is remembered by his family as a gentle man molded by coming of age during the depression years. His were the values of The Great Generation, of personal and fiscal responsibility, loyalty, steadfastness, and plain-spokenness. His children sum up his life thus: He was always there for us.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Lottie Seale; one brother, Bradley Seale; and one sister, Doris Seale. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Seale of the home; brother, Donald Seale and his wife Nettie of Checotah, OK; daughter, Denise Baxter and husband Danny of Duncan, OK; daughter, Dana Bowen and husband John of Moore, OK; son, Todd Seale and wife Lorri of Yukon, OK; son, Kyle Seale and wife Penny of Piedmont, OK; eight grandchildren: Brooke Christianson, LaLacia Kane, Nick Mathis, Kaleah Moates, Daniel Baxter, Chad Baxter, Zachary Bowen and Cayman Seale; and seven great-grandchildren: Hunter, Myla, Haven, Rhea, Briar, Eli, and Elise.
Viewing was held on Sunday, April 19, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at Mercer-Adams in Bethany. Due to current coronavirus restrictions on gatherings, a private graveside ceremony for immediate family was held. Once it is deemed safe for all guests, a memorial celebration will be held in James’ honor to which all family and friends will be invited (date to be determined).
