Henry James Gilmore
Henry James Gilmore of Waco, Texas was born on June 7, 1927. He passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, with his loving wife of 62 years, Lula, by his side. Henry was born in Aquilla, Texas to Cleveland Carvin Gilmore and Daisy O’Dell Gilmore.
Henry attended Waco High School and later studied at Baylor University. His first job in Waco was reading meters with several jobs following until he started at Hartford Insurance. He worked at Hartford Insurance as an auditor for 32 years and retired. He then went on to working for his church in Kenner, Louisiana and then in San Antonio, Texas. Henry served in the Navy and fought in World War II and the Korean War.
He later met his wife Lula Faye on a blind date and married her on January 31, 1959. Lula had a child, Amanda, who Henry adopted and raised as his own. Henry and Lula later had another daughter, Donna, then their family was complete. Henry was an only child but gained a big family when he married Lula whose family included ten brothers and six sisters.
Henry was a dedicated husband and father, raising his two girls and spending lots of time with his nieces and nephews and later his grandchildren. Henry was a family man, always attending family gatherings and the yearly family reunions based in Waco. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and also gave out Bibles with The Gideons International.
Henry is survived in death by his lovely wife, Lula Faye, and his two daughters Amanda Dodson and spouse Edward Dodson, and Donna Gilmore; grandchildren include Clovis Reeves, Ashley Reeves, Gregg Gilmore and wife Mandi, Daisy Figueroa and husband Ruben, Randi Gilmore, Henry Dodson and fiancée Jessica Bond, and Thomas Roussell; great-grandchildren include Jordan, Brenna, Austin, Hannah, Jacob, Lucie, Mia, Griffin, Daniel, Bella, Drew, Carter, Lucy, Caleb, Sarah, Camden, Kase, and Kolli.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and brother John Carven Gilmore, who passed away at two weeks of age.
View will be 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 22nd , at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, December 23rd , at Waco Memorial Cemetery in Robinson, Texas with Edward Dodson speaking.
Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
