Shirley (Taylor) Lee McAdoo

Shirley Cristelee (Taylor) Lee McAdoo passed away in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Sunday morning, January 3, 2021, at the age of 84 years.

Shirley was the daughter of Alton Jewel Taylor and Era (Westerman) Taylor, born on May 27, 1936, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She was brought up in Wewoka and New Lima and attended Wewoka schools, graduating Wewoka High School with the Class of 1954. She attended one semester at Seminole Junior College.

She was married to Charles Lee on December 11, 1953, and they made their home in the Holdenville area. Charles and Shirley were blessed with fifty years together before Charles passed away on February 11, 2003.

Shirley’s interests were many and she worked at various occupations, including employment at two of Holdenville’s iconic landmarks: waitress at Manhattan Cafe, and soda fountain at Keystone Hotel. She later worked at Peoples State Bank, Wal Mart, Burton’s IGA, Roberts IGA, and Nichols Grocery Store. Shirley worked twelve years with the Corps of Engineers.

Shirley was married to Jay McAdoo on March 6, 2004. They lived in the Brooken Cove area when they weren’t “snowbirds” living in Texas or Arizona in the winter. They moved back to Holdenville in 2011. Jay passed away on January 19, 2015.

She loved to fish, she loved travel, and just trying daily to be a good person. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Holdenville.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Era Taylor; and three brothers, Alton Taylor Jr., Jesse Taylor, and Billy Taylor.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Billye Lee, of Holdenville; her granddaughter, Chelsea Sneed and husband Coty, of Holdenville; two great-grandchildren, Peytyn Sneed and Cutter Sneed; her sister, Johnnie Faye Clark of Muskogee; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends, including Wayne Taylor and Eddie Taylor, both of Sasakwa.

Graveside services will be held and Shirley will be laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery, 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8 ^th . Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Taylor, Eddie Taylor, George Brown, Coty Sneed, Mike Taylor, Rick Taylor, and Tommy Lee.
