Service Saturday for Dale Lowder
Lonnie Dale Lowder of Celina, Texas passed away November 13, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born on December 4, 1931 to Lonnie Doy Lowder and Willie Raye (Oliver) Lowder in Wetumka, Oklahoma. Lonnie grew up in Holdenville, Oklahoma and graduated from Holdenville High School in 1952 after serving his country proudly in the National Guard of Oklahoma and the United States National Guard. Lonnie enlisted in the United States Army on September 1, 1950 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 25, 1952. Lonnie attended East Texas State University from 1953-1955 where he was a member of the 1955 National Championship basketball team. He then attented and completed his bachelor degree in education from East Central State College, Ada, Oklahoma. He married Caroline “Sue” Susan Spillman on August 10, 1957 in Okemah, Oklahoma. Lonnie was a career educator working mostly for Richardson Independent School District from September 1959 until May 1993. Lonnie taught, coached basketball and football and became the assistant principal at Richardson North Jr. High, J.J. Pearce High School and Richardson High School. He later earned his master’s degree in education while working for the Richardson ISD. His hobbies included golf, woodworking and horses. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Celina, Texas.
He is survived by his son, Casey Lowder of Palmer, Texas; daughter, Deborah Lowder Keck and husband, John Charles of Garland, Texas; grandson, Austin Cole Lowder of Affton, Missouri; sister, Virginia Dare Adair of La Marque Texas; brother-in-,law, Bob Spillman and wife Margaret of Roxton, Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Lowder; parents, Lonnie and Willie Lowder; brother, Bill Lowder; sisters, Wanda Alsup and Maudine Gayer.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church, 8382 County Road 128, Celina, Texas 75009. Interment with military honors will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.
