Supreme Court Upholds Protections For Indian Children

On Thursday the Supreme Court, in their ruling on the case, “Haaland v Brackeen,” voted 7-2 to uphold the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), which was originally enacted in 1978 to establish minimum federal standards for removing Native children from their families and required state courts to notify tribes when an Indian child was removed from his or her home outside of a reservation.

Abe Lincoln Trading Company

The old Abe Lincoln Trading Company building, now owned by the Marks family, is being nominated to be added to the National Register of Historic Places and the Oklahoma State Register of Historic Places. The National Register is at the Federal government's official listing of historic properties worth of preservation. Listing in the National Register provides recognition and assists in preserving the nation’s heritage. The building is located on Main Street in Clearview and is a tourist attraction and appears in many photo shoots. The building has been in Clearview since the establishment of the town in 1903 and served as the trading company for the sale of real-estate in the area.

Tiger French is out of ICU for almost a week and currently in rehab. He is scheduled to be released next week and to go home with his sister Cathy Terrell who has received training to take care of him. The French family is planning a reunion in Clearview on July 15th on Clearview.
