Olive Star Baptist Church sponsored by the Warrior School Restoration Organization. Born Betty Gwendolyn Hopkins to Stacy and Carrie Hopkins on March 3, 1928, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Mason amassed a total of 59 years in education. Upon graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, she went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas. In 1949, she began her teaching career in the Kansas City School District in Kansas. She married and in 1950 moved to Dallas where she applied for a job in the Dallas Independent School District. They denied her a position because she was not a Texan.

The Hughes County Board of County Commissioners held a regular meeting in Holdenville, Oklahoma, on February 28, 2023. The meeting was attended by several board members, including Coal Dilday, Jim Lively, Dwight Barnett, Angela Brooks, Morgan Adams, Mike Dockrey, Trever Teague, Dale Ramsey, Bobbie Burdick, Kayla Jarrett, Daryn Kirkpatrick, Coy McCorkle, and Dane Scribner.
