Each year on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Survivors, veterans, and visitors from all over the world come together to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. A further 1,178 people were injured in the attack, which permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships (the USS Arizona and the USS Utah) and destroyed 188 aircraft.

Read more2 cups salted roasted peanuts (12 ox.) can 1 cup light corn syrup ½ cup water ½ cup (1 stick) butter or margarine 1-pound golden brown sugar (2 1/3 cups packed) 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 teaspoon baking soda Spread peanuts in a shallow pan and place in a 200-degree oven. Combine water, sugar, syrup, and butter in a 3-quart heavy saucepan. Place over high heat; stir constantly until boiling. Place thermometer in mixture and continue cooking to degrees (hard-crack stage). Stir often to prevent burning. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and hot peanuts. Add soda and stir until foamy. Quickly pour into two greased cookie sheets. Spread as thin as possible. As soon as brittle begins to set, flip over on board, and pull as thin as possible. Cool. Break into pieces. Makes 2 ½ pounds.
