The Okfuskee County Oklahoma Home and Community Education Fall Meeting held their Fall Meeting in Clearview at the Clearview Main Street Community Building on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. TheClearview Brown Sugga Club hosted the event and provided the main dish, drinks, and breakfast items while the Okemah and Paden clubs provided the side dishes and desserts.
Read moreDanielle Ruffin of Tulsa and Anthony Wagner of Addison, Texas heard of the historically Black Towns in Oklahoma and decided to take Saturday, October 15, to visit Grayson and Clearview. Danielle recently moved to Tulsa in March from Chicago, Ill. Her was raised in Korea and has lived most of her life in Korea. Her moved to Tulsa to join Tulsa Remote and is enjoying learning about the state. Her friend Anthony has joined in her quest of learning of the state. While in Grayson and Clearview, they picked up a few souvenirs to take home and had dinner at Wanda’s Uptown Restaurant. They plan to return during dedicated events.

They may be talking about the “big fish” that got away or the number of quail they plan to get during hunting season. One thing for sure, they are enjoying each other’s company under the shade of the trees as the wind provides a breeze to cool the conversation. The time must have been around Labor Day weekend, 1969 or so, because the photo was taken in the back yard of the late Dollie Golden’s home during the Golden Family Reunion. The men on the bench from left to right Sonny Howard (?), Ross Miner, Roy Ballard, and A. T. Golden. The man holding the tobacco can is Joseph Marks, and the man with his dinner plate in the background is Lewis Chatman. That house is no longer there, and the reunion contuse at every year on Labor Day weekend as has since about 1921. The old Clearview school gym and grounds serve as the event place now. Those in the photo are deceased but the memories linger on.

The Lady Hornets started the tournament with a hard-fought victo- ry in the quarterfinals against Kiowa defeating them 2-0. In the semi-finals, the Lady Hornets took the early lead and never looked back as they defeated a solid Buffalo Valley Team 6-2. Championship Saturday saw the Lady Hornets take a 5-3 victory over Whitesboro to be named STATE CHAMPIONS.
