Bunny Powell
Bunny Powell passed away in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the age of 59 years.
Bunny was the son of David and Mary (Johnson) Powell, born on September 1, 1962, in Wetumka, Oklahoma. He was brought up in Holdenville and attended schools in Holdenville and Eufaula. He lived for a few years in Liberal, Kansas, then returned to Holdenville, his lifelong home. He married Janice Lena, she passed away in 2017. He later married Jeraldean Tiger. He worked for Seminole Nation Mainenance. He traveled the U.S. for the Wild Land Firefighters of the Seminole Nation, fighting wildfires and forest fires on both Coasts, in the Grand Canyon, the Appalachian Mountains, the Rockies, and various other forests and wild lands.
Bunny was always busy, and always helping people. He kept lawns mowed for all eight homes in his neighborhood and made a habit of helping anyone in any way he could. He loved children, infants and older, and was always taking care of kids and spoiling them all. He enjoyed teaching his nieces how to drive. One of his favorite things was relaxing and whittling images out of sticks. He was a member of Many Springs Baptist Church in Holdenville.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice, in 2017; his parents, David and Mary Powell; three brothers: Davy Powell, Barney Powell, and Roy Powell, and one sister, Geneva Harjo; his niece, Andrea Lee Harjo, and nephew Hiram Harjo.
He is survived by his wife, Jeraldean, of the home; his son, Benjamin Powell, and daughter, Dana Rae Powell; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Penny Powell, all of Holdenville. Numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Many Springs Baptist Church in Holdenville, and Bunny was laid to rest at the Powell Family Cemetery north of Holdenville. Officiating ministers were Rev. Jimmie Anderson, Rev. Mark Smith, and Rev. Frank Moppin. Pallbearers were Jarrod Goombi, Sherman West, Russell Lowe, Ronnie Powell, Darryl Powell, and Dennis Powell. Honorary pallbearers were David Isham, Roy Ross, Jonathan Herrod, Chris McGirt, Tony Faulkner, Danny Faulkner, Boston Lowe, Oske Lowe, and Chris Powell.
Wake service was Monday, February 28, 7:00 p.m. at Many Springs Baptist Church.
