Ninnie Mae Elliott
Ninnie Mae (Woodall) Elliott passed away April 27, 2023 peacefully at her home of over 60 years, east of Calvin, Oklahoma, with her loving daughter, Hilda, who cared for her for many years, by her side. Ninnie was born March 16, 1926 in Amity, Arkansas. She was the fourth child to William Woodall and Hilder (Doster) Woodall.
Ninnie was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Daisy Chandler, and Raymond and Willie Woodall; spouses Johnny Cox, Jesse Jackson Yarbrough, and Nile Elliott; sons Baby Yarbrough, Johnnie Cox, Roy Yarbrough, and Queston Yarbrough; and granddaughter Melanie Yarbrough.
She is survived by her daughter, Hilda Battershell and husband Mark of Calvin; daughter, Georgia Cruz of Alabama; daughter-inlaw, Angie Yarbrough of Rio Rico, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Mary Yarbrough of Ada; son, Donnie Cox and wife Jean of Ada; son Quinton Yarbrough and wife Karen of Gerty; grandchildren Bradley Battershell, Donald Gene Cox and wife Deborah, John David Cox and wife Jennifer, Michel Cosby and husband Jeff, Brandon Yarbrough, Melissa Yarbrough, and Jessica Stewart; numerous nieces, nephews and great-grand- children, and a wonderful friend who helped care for her in her final months, Penny Bolding.
Ninnie was a homemaker for most of her adult life. Her greatest joy was raising and caring for her children and devoting her life to making a home for her family. Perhaps her second greatest enjoyment was gardening and making quilts, sewing them by hand from patterns. She gardened well into her 80’s, raising enough vegetables of all sorts to feed a village year after year, giving away much of her crop to friends and family gave her much joy. Of the Pentecostal Holiness faith for many years, then of the Freewill Baptist faith after her home church closed, Ninnie was a faithful woman of Christ who regularly attended services whenever the doors of the church were open, until her health prevented her from doing so. She instilled the importance of faith in God to her children as well. Ninnie was known far and wide for her skills in the kitchen. Her years of raising a family served her well in the art of cooking the best meals of “comfort food” and baking pies and cakes that commanded top-dollar at many a bake sale. Ninnie lived a long and full life, much of it in the beautiful Oklahoma countryside, doing the things she loved alongside her family. She will be missed greatly and thought of often by those who loved her.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 2nd, at the Free Will Baptist Church in Calvin, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Calvin Cemetery.
