Sue Lyles
Funeral Services for Sue Lyles will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church of Wetumka, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Wetumka Cemetery.
Sue Lyles was born April 21, 1936 to Kenneth Keesee & Willie Mae (McAllister) Keesee north of Holdenville in the Bethel community.
She went to her heavenly home on Saturday January 25th, 2025 at the age of 88.
Sue attended Bethel school through 8th grade and then moved on to Yeager High School where she graduated in 1954. In school, Sue enjoyed playing basketball on the same team as her two sisters and often recalled fond memories playing for Coach Self.
After graduating high school, she enrolled in college but right before school started she was offered a job at Atlas Abstract Company and decided to go to work instead. She then went on to work at the Hughes County Court House and later worked as a legal secretary for attorney Stanley Huser.
While working at the courthouse she met the love of her life, Clinton Lyles, who worked across the street at the tractor dealership. They enjoyed getting to know each other while they took their lunch breaks, where Clinton would come to visit with her. They were married at Pecan Grove Baptist Church on August 31, 1957. Sue and Clinton made their home in Wetumka where they owned Wetumka Auto and Tractor Supply.
Sue’s greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother to her daughters and granddaughters. She also loved to serve her church and held many roles, such as treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, nursery worker, and cooking for countless potluck dinners. When she wasn’t serving at church she was likely tending to her cattle, gardening, baking, or driving around town visiting her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 35 years, Clinton Lyles; one brother, Bud Keesee and one sister-in-law, Bernice Neese.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori and husband Steve Palladino and Cari and husband John Curtis, all of Wetumka.
