Service held for Helen Louise Gouge
Funeral services for Helen Louise Gouge were held Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Hanna Indian Community Center. Interment followed at the Gouge Family Cemetery of Hanna, also known as The Gouge Paradise. Wake services were held Monday, 7:00 PM also at the community center.
Helen Louise Gouge was born November 19, 1947 in McIntosh County near Dustin, Oklahoma to Albert and Sallie (Spaniard) Gouge. She passed away Friday, March 24, 2023 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma at the age of 75, surrounded by family.
Ms. Gouge was a resident of Wetumka, Oklahoma and was a retired home health care worker and phlebotomist.
Ms. Gouge had a strong personality, she was very opinionated about things that she cared about. She had a strong belief in the proper protocol of the Ceremonial Grounds, whether it was cooking things correctly or advising the younger generation. She enjoyed attending any events that included her greatgrandsons.
Her hobbies included baking pies, quilting, going to garage sales, and watching OU Football, she also enjoyed versing in the Muscogee (Creek) Language.
She is preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Felix, Cecil, Wilbur, Wilford, William and Ernest Gouge and five sisters, Melissa Gouge, Sarah Wilson, Nancy Deere, Deann Gouge, and Elizabeth Townsend.
Survivors include her son, Charles Allen Harley and wife Millie of Wetumka and two sisters, Evelyn Wood of Okmulgee and Tina Gouge of Humble, Texas, also survived by two grandsons, Josh and Matt Harley, one granddaughter, Allyssa Wind, three great-grandsons, Samuel, Jacob, and Dustin Harley, two great-granddaughters, Joshlynn Harley and Millie Wind, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Serving as active pallbearers were Leonard Gouge, Timmy Gouge, Samuel Harley, Travis Gouge, Matthew Harley and Josh Harley.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were her nephews and grandsons.
Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Wetumka and officiated by Phillip Harjo.
