Last week was vacation time for Pat and me. So, you may ask, what do we have to vacation from? Good question but nevertheless, off we went. Went back to “Sweet Home Alabama.” No, I never lived there but my dad came west from there. A place called Gadsden. Whenever I visit there I wonder why they chose to leave this beautiful part of Alabama and move to a somewhat unimproved place called Leflore County, Oklahoma. But they did and in my journeys there I found out their reasons.

Oklahoma Celebrates Juneteenth

Dunbar Heights-Citizen Potawatomi Nation 2022 Juneteenth VIP Program held it’s program on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Potawatomi Convention Center in Shawnee. There were various recognitions and annoucements, including musical selections, the singing of the Negro National Anthem “Lift Every Voice And Sing,” followed by heavy Hors D’Oeuvres. Shirley Nero of Clearview spoke on the “Recognition of 13 Black Townships of Oklahoma and the keynote speaker was Major Dr. M. L. Jemison of Oklahoma City.

Town of Clearview Celebrates Juneteenth

The citizens of the Town of Clearview cel-ebrated Juneteenth as citizens in the early days of Clearview with food, games, and the reason they celebrate Juneteenth. The group gathered at the Main Street Community Center at 6:30 p.m. on June 19, 2022, the actual day of Juneteenth for pizza, drinks, dessert, and games. It was a fun time for all. This may generate a monthly event instead of a yearly event to bring the citizens together.

Also, sympathy is extended to the Zackery family upon the death of Shirley A. Zackery-Smith, daughter of the late Joe Clifford and Drucilla Zackery.
