Tulsa Rudisill Regional Library sponsored the 23 Annual Historic All-Black Town Tour Commemorating Juneteenth on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Two busloads of tourist visited the historically all-Black towns of Redbird and Tullahassee in Wagoner county. The ended the day with lunch at Golden Corral and a tour of Fort Gibson Historic Site. Historians Shirley Nero and Jimmie White led the groups on a fascinating, historical history through Oklahoma from 1832 to the present.

The Oklahoma Historical Society hosted the the Juneteenth Celebration with “Music Through the Ages” at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Dr. Donnie L. Nero Sr. served as emcee. Sentor George Young served as keynote speaker. Three musical performers, representing Oklahoma’s Africn American roots, included Dr. Harold Aldridge Jr., Walter Taylor’s Blu Fonk band, and Jabee Williams’ contemporary rap. The Brothers of Stomp performed and Evelym Morgan led the audience in the Black Nationa Anthem. This annual event is sponsored by the OHS’s Multicultural Office and Black Heritage Committee.

HOLDENVILLE — Autumn Jackson had waited more than two years to tell her story in court and to confront the couple that abused her from age 14 to 21. For 30 minutes this afternoon, she read a detailed victim impact statement to Hughes County District Judge Timothy Olsen regarding the sexual, physical and mental abuse perpetrated by James and Rebecca Jackson, a pair of U.S. Army veterans who became her legal guardians in Illinois, moved to Oklahoma and won election to the Wetumka City Council.
