Rentiesville

In Creek Nation, Indian Territory, on twenty acres owned by William Rentie and owned twenty acres owned Phoebe McIntosh in what is now McIntosh county, a town was founded in 1903. Rev. N. A. Robinson, I. J. foster, W. D. Robinson, and Rentie organized a town townsite company and established the town of Rentiesville located five miles north of Checotah. Robinson served as presided of the company and opened the first mercantile business and became the first postmaster of the post office opened on May 11, 1904. B. C. Franklin, father of John Hope Franklin, later served as postmaster. The Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railway served the town. By 1905, the town had five businesses along Main Street and eighty-one children enrolled in school and in the same year elected F. P. Brinson as the first mayor.
