Our Sympathies Extended to the Family of Lorene Bird
Lorene Bird passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at OU Health University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 82.
Lorene Shannon Bird was born on March 12, 1942, near Pharoah (Springhill), Oklahoma to Landers Terry and Lydia (Lillie) Garrett Shannon. She grew up in the Clearview area and graduated from Clearview High School.
Lorene accepted Christ at an early age and attended First Baptist Church for many years.
Lorene married Willie Dan Bird, and they made their home in Clearview and Weleetka for many years. Lorene and Willie Dan raised four daughters and enjoyed many happy years in Okfuskee County.
Her perseverance, determination and work ethic served her well as she attended nursing school. She attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training, School of Nursing. During her time at OSUIT, she managed to raise her four daughters all while excelling in her studies. Graduating 3rd in her class and going on to pass the rigorous nursing boards. In 1982, Lorene obtained her LPN license and worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections until her retirement.
Lorene had a welcoming, nurturing and kind nature. She and her husband Willie Dan shared their home with nieces and nephews for summers in the country. She lovingly became known as “Ainty” to all her nieces and nephews. Even after her retirement, Lorene continued to use her nursing skill and love by fostering special needs children for many years.
Lorene enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren and cooking meals with extra ounces of love in each dish. Her famous peach cobbler and cakes that no one could resist, especially her grandchildren. Lorene’s creativity and talent included making beautiful quilts to share with the family. Her specialty quilts were for the new babies in the family; each one with its own special design signifying her joy for new life.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents Landers and Lydia Shannon, her husband Willie Dan Bird, brothers Leonard Shannon, Landers Shannon, Jr., Willie Shannon, Wayne Shannon, Sr., and sisters Martha Bell and Ellen Black. Lorene Bird leaves to cherish her memory; four daughters, Shelly Behn of Weleetka, OK, Ellen Williams of Edmond, OK, Lydia (David) Johnson of Mansfield, TX and Nickole Rose of Midwest City, OK; one stepson, Fred Behn III, Rancho Cucamonga, CA, nine grandchildren, Nicole Hodnett and Stefanie Hodnett (Edmond, OK), Tony Hodnett (Ft. Worth, TX), Kobe Rose and Kellen Rose (Midwest City, OK), Dawn Rose and Mitchell Rose (Tulsa, OK), David Johnson II and Donovan Johnson (Mansfield, TX); two great- grandchildren, Jordan Hodnett and Genesis Hodnett (Edmond, OK); one brother, Walter Shannon and one sister Myrtle (George) Guillory; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m.. Saturday, August 10, at the Clearview Community Center. Services are under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home, Wetumka.
